WHO WE ARE
Dean Smith - Director
For over 25 years Dean Smith Hampshire Marine’s founder has developed a high level of trust amongst clients and industry professionals within the superyacht market.
Following a number of years in the sailboat industry working where Dean ran a yacht builder in Falmouth, UK working with the likes of Dubois Yacht Design and Rhoades Young on the design, he then joined the famous Devonport Royal Dockyard as Business Development Manager for their superyacht division and during his time was involved with the 82metre M/Y Sarafsa by Winch Design and the 96metre VAVA II working with RWD and Remi Tessier on the design.
In 2009 Dean joined leading marine consultants Burness Corlett Three Quays and sister company Royale Oceanic, superyacht specialists becoming Group Managing Director in 2013.
Since founding Hampshire Marine he focuses his time on overseeing the company’s refit projects throughout Europe, most recently spending time in our Hamburg project office for our latest large yacht refit with Lurssen.
With new construction projects underway in Holland he also has day to day involvement in the project meetings with the shipyard and clients, assisting our project managers where possible.

Malcolm Lindsay - Technical Director
Malcolm has been working with Hampshire Marine since inception and has been a key part of our refit management projects, shipyard negotiation team and all survey work.
His broad experience is gained from many years within the industry as a consultant to yacht owners working on major new construction projects and prior as a Chief Engineer on a number of large superyachts.
Currently Malcolm compiles and reviews new construction, refit, conversion, repair and warranty specifications including commenting and advising on justification of ‘Variations to Contract’ with regards to the owner’s enjoyment and benefit, yacht’s operation and value for money.
Malcolm attends shipyards and yachts on board as required by the client to follow and advise/comment on construction, refit, acceptance trials, protocols of delivery and other works ensuring the clients’ expectations and demands of quality and cost control are complied with. This involves regular reporting to the client or his/her designated representative.
He has worked at many leading superyacht shipyards including, Lurssen, Nobiskrug, Amels and Abeking & Rasmussen.

Claire McKee - Project Coordinator
Claire qualified as a Naval Architect in 2007 when she graduated from Newcastle University with a first-class Master’s degree in Naval Architecture. Claire won several awards during her time at University including the Macgregor-Navire Prize for engineering excellence.
From there Claire joined Lloyd Register as a plan approval specialist where she began her in depth knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations, this continued over the years including being a member of the Red Ensign Group Yacht Code working group.
Claire has a passion for sustainability and renewable energy and left LR to become a director of Sustainable Marine Technology (now Sustainable Marine Energy) looking at novel ways to reduce carbon emissions.
From there Claire joined leading marine consultants Burness Corlett Three Quays and sister company Royale Oceanic in 2012. Claire worked there as a Senior Consultant. She was responsible for a wide variety of consultancy project including the design development and project management of a number of large yacht projects between 100 and 140 metres.
